The LA Bushwick Book Club meets each month to write a new song based on a book. Curated by Stacy Rock, the LA BBC has read everything from the classics, think Kurt Vonnegut, Mary Shelley, and Raymond Chandler, to contemporary works by Octavia Butler, Ingrid Rojas Contrera and Dolly Parton. Quite possibly the most perfect book club, we don’t meet to hash out narrative questions or haggle over author intentions, instead we read a book and search for that one little nugget that we know is the start of a new song. It’s not about perfection, rather it’s about showing up and sharing. Glorious, mysterious, beautiful things can happen when you let other artists inspire you. Find a method to your madness with us. All writers start the same, regardless of experience or skill, with a blank page.
Pre pandemic times, we met each month at Molly Malone’s in Hollywood. Since March 2020, we’ve moved the show to the livestream realm. Please join us.
